Meet Ms. Sugar
I was born here in Madison and grew up on East Dayton Street on the East side. I went to Emerson Elementary School, Marquette (O'Keefe) Middle School, and then onto East Side High, graduating class of 1991.
After that I went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where I studied Elementary Education. Then I came back to Madison to work and live.
I have only one child, Molly. Molly is a seventh grader at Hamilton Middle School this year. She loves to sing and dance and act. She's a real crack up. I'll have some fun stories to tell you this year, if my old brain can remember them all.
I have taught grades 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7. I have taught at Verona Area Middle School, Mendota Elementary School, Schenk Elementary School and Randall Elementary School. I have loved all of my experiences but I would say I enjoy older kids more than younger kids. Fifth grade is for sure THE BEST!!! I love sharing my love of reading and writing with students, especially with books by great authors like Patricia Polacco, Lois Lowry, and Jon Scieszka. I also love teaching social studies, and mixing our learning there with units of study in writing. In math we spend the year learning how magical all of our math concepts can be, and how they intermingle with one another. We find that all we've learned up through fourth grade has been building blocks for the newer, harder concepts that we start to take on in fifth grade and beyond.
I look forward to sharing with you here on the blog the things we do in class to allow you a peek into our daily classroom learning and activities. Check back frequently for new information on all the great times in room 122! Please contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. I can be reached at tsugar@madison.k12.wi.us
